Riverwalk and the Azalea Festival

Tom and I made it to downtown Wilmington today in time to catch the last bit of the Azalea Festival

He let me grab his camera to take these two pics of the bridge and the Henrietta…

… but then took it back and started shooting a few of me.

After walking around and seeing the venders, we ate at Dock Street and then came here to take pictures. I really enjoyed walking around downtown Wilmington again, especially since it was such a beautiful day. The sun setting on the water and the historic buildings has always been so beautiful to me. Downtown Raleigh is nice, but nothing beats the riverwalk.

Exploring Downtown Raleigh

Today I took a little break from unpacking to explore downtown Raleigh and take a few pictures.

First I stopped at the capitol building, there were a few interesting statues and some flowers still blooming. I wanted to get pictures of all the blooming trees but they’ve shed all their flowers already.

I stopped to eat lunch at Morning Times and had an apple and brie sandwich with an iced coffee. It was so good after walking around in the sun for most of the afternoon. After I ate I asked one of the baristas for suggestions of what to check out. They told me how close I was to Moore’s Square so I headed there next.

These were painted on an alley way in City Market, very cute.

Later I was walking and found myself in front of Artscape, so I went in for a while. I really enjoyed the exhibits and I also got to talk with several of the artists. They were all so friendly, one even asked me to critique the painting he was working on. He also showed me the process he uses to make his watercolors. I love meeting interesting people.

After I got tired of walking I headed back towards the car… or so I thought. Silly me forgot to take note of where I had parked! I had a map but kept reading it wrong and was searching about 5 blocks away from where I needed to be, lol. I finally retraced my steps and found it, right before I broke down and asked Tom to come get me, hahaha.

Overall I had a wonderful time. I’ve always been the type of person to enjoy spending time alone once in a while, and today was perfect for that. I have more pictures at my flickr photoset, be sure to check them out.

Wow my hair is getting long…

With the Hello Kitty coin bank my Dad just sent me.

While I still won’t call myself a photographer, I think my photography skills are getting a little better. My house has terrible lighting unless it’s during the day and then the natural light is pretty nice, so I decided to take these during my lunch break.

So I caught a cold today, I’m not too happy about that. I’ve been taking vitamins till they’re coming out of my ears and blowing my nose all day. I had to put on extra makeup for these pics to cover the redness, ha ha.

Dad sent me another “care package” with this ceramic Hello Kitty coin bank, a black satin mantilla from spain, and some other goodies. The mantilla is like a shawl with fringe, this one has beautiful golden roses embroidered on it. It’s so pretty, I can’t wait to wear it.

I recently heard about this beautiful site from Eddie’s blog, it’s called Days With My Father. It’s a photo journal about a photographer and his father who suffered from Alzheimer’s. It’s beautifully put together and moving, definitely check it out.
